Alkaline Water and Your Health

by x2ogirl

WHY Water is Critical to Your Good Health

Your body is designed to be approx. 70% water. The most critical fluid in your body, your blood, is mostly water. Your muscles, skin, and vital organs all contain and need large amounts of water for optimal health. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, delivers nutrients, removes waste, and provides energy to the body.

Signs of Dehydration: Your body loses approx. 2.5 liters of water every day just through normal bodily functions. You lose water through urination, respiration, and perspiration. If you are physically active or athletic, you lose even more water. Although “thirst” is an obvious sign of dehydration, the TRUTH is your body is in need of water long before you feel thirsty.

Symptoms of mild dehydration include chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches, and constipation. A strong odor to your urine, along with a yellow or amber color indicates that you are not getting enough water.

Why Alkaline Water is good for your Health

Alkalinity = Good Health!
“The cells of a healthy body are alkaline while the cells of a diseased body are acidic.”
Dr. Arthur Guyton (author of the “Textbook of Medical Physiology”)

Is Your Body Acidic?

Some of the symptoms associated with acidic conditions in the body include weight loss problems, insomnia, water retention, arthritis, migraine headaches, constipation, colds, flu, stomach ulcers, acid reflux and even cancer. Many health experts agree that an overly acidic body greatly diminishes the effectiveness of your immune system and usually leads to disease.

Acidic conditions in the body are caused by: junk food, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, sodas, coffee, sports drinks, alcohol, environmental toxins, and stress. Considering this long list of items that can lead to acidic challenges in our body, it becomes very clear why it is so important to drink an alkaline water or beverage like Xtreme X2O every day.

WHY pH balance is critical to your health

In order for the body to maintain optimal health, it needs to manage a very narrow pH range (slightly alkaline) – especially in the blood. In fact, the body will go to almost any length necessary to maintain your blood pH at 7.34 – 7.45 because anything outside that pH range could result in death.

The process of restoring pH balance in your body always includes proper diet and nutrition. This means eating alkalizing foods (vegetables, low sugar fruits, etc.) and getting proper nutritional supplementation. However, the foundation of healthy pH balance is in drinking plenty of alkaline water. And the easiest way to “supercharge” water and make it into alkaline water is by adding an Xtreme X2O sachet! One Xtreme X20 will treat 24 oz of water making it Alkaline Water with a PH around 9.9.

Measuring Acid/ Alkaline Balance: Scientists can determine if a liquid is alkaline or acidic by simply testing the “pH” of that liquid. “pH” means “potential hydrogen.” The pH scale range is from 0-14 with 7 being “neutral.” Readings below 7 are acidic and readings above 7 are alkaline. A one-point decrease on the pH scale represents that a liquid is 10 times more acidic. For example, a drop from 7.0 (neutral) to 2.0 means a liquid is 100,000 times more acidic to your body!

Juicing Rhubarb

Juicing can not only help the normal person increase their veggie intake but also help you you intake veggies that you wouldn’t normally eat, like Rhubarb.

But think about it when you eat a stalk of rhubarb what do you add?

When you bake or “melt” down Rhubarb what do you add?

Why not Juice Rhubarb and and drink it?

  1. Purchase flat stalks of rhubarb — it looks like bright-red celery — that are not wilted, soft or limp. Choose either large or small stalks that are brightly pigmented.
  2. Wash rhubarb thoroughly, scrubbing off any dirt under running water.
  3. Trim off both ends of the rhubarb. Discard any leaves, which are poisonous.
  4. Cut rhubarb into 1- to 2-inch segments. If you are not going to make juice right away, store the pieces in a sealed storage bag in the refrigerator.
  5. Place rhubarb pieces in the juicer along with other sliced fruit, such as strawberries, blueberries, peaches or apricots. Rhubarb can add a refreshing tartness to your juice, but adjust the amount to your taste rather than adding sweetener to the finished juice. Begin with about one-third the volume of fruit.
  6. juicing rhubarb

Warning when Juicing Rhubarb

When Juicing Rhubarb only use the stalk because the root and leaves contain dangerously high concentrations of oxalic acid. When eating a rhubarb dessert and drinking milk you Can feel a grit in your mouth that is the precipitation of calcium oxalate. (So I have been sold as I don’t drink milk and I don’t eat desserts very often lol)

Oxalic acid is naturally found in some foods.

Oxalic acid combines with metals such as calcium in the body to form oxalate crystals which can irritate the gut and kidneys. The most common kind of kidney stone is made of calcium oxalate.

Since oxalic acid binds vital nutrients such as calcium, long–term consumption of foods high in oxalic acid can lead to nutrient deficiencies. Healthy individuals can safely consume such foods in moderation, but those with kidney disorders, gout, osteoporosis or rheumatoid arthritis are typically advised to avoid foods high in oxalic acid or oxalates.

Oxalic acid requires exercise for it to be metabolized. If you get too much oxalic acid, then your body will begin to actually loose nutrients.

If you or your family history indicates there is an increased risk of experiencing such health problems as mentioned above, then avoid juicing vegetables and fruits that are high in oxalic acid.

Even if there is no history or cause to be concerned about kidney stones, gout, osteoporosis or rheumatoid arthritis, you should still only juice vegetables and fruits that are high in oxalic acid only occasionally and in smaller amounts.

Foods that contain significant concentrations of oxalic acid include (in decreasing order):

star fruit (carambola)
black pepper
poppy seed
Beets and beet greens
most nuts
most berries
and beans

Since oxalic acid and calcium combine to create an indigestible compound, juicing rhubarb or vegetables high in oxalic acid and consuming calcium rich foods together isn’t a very good idea. An example would be spinach and broccoli.

One should also avoid eating calcium rich foods immediately after juicing rhubarb or vegetables high in oxalic acid. This includes food items such as milk, seaweed, tofu, tahini (ground sesame seeds), etc.

what is Calcium and how Does a Vegan get it?

These Questions or excuses keep coming up by people who don’t follow a plant based lifestyle.  So I’m here to answer them.

What is Calcium?

Calcium is a chemical element with the symbol “Ca”  Calcium is needed by all living organisms, including humans, it is used in the body to build and maintain strong bones.  it also contributes to the healthy communication between the brain and parts of the body.

Calcium regulates muscle contraction, including the heartbeat. It also plays a key role in normal blood coagulation (clotting).
How much calcium should I consume each day?

According to the Institute of Medicine (IoM), we should consume calcium daily at the following amounts:

  • age 0 to 6 months 200 mg per day
  • age 7 to 12 months 260 mg per day
  • age 1 to 3 years 700 mg per day
  • age 4 to 8 years 1000 mg per day
  • age 9 to 18 years 1300 mg per day
  • age 19 to 50 years 1000 mg per day
  • breastfeeding or pregnant teenager 1000 mg per day
  • breastfeeding or pregnant adult 1000 mg per day
  • age 51 to 70 years (male) 1000 mg per day
  • age 51 to 70 years (female) 1200 mg per day
  • age 71+ years 1200 mg per day

Which foods are rich in calcium

  • Milk
  • Cheese
  • Yogurt
  • Seaweeds, such as kelp, hijiki and wakame
  • Nuts and seeds, including pistachio, sesame, almonds, hazelnuts
  • Beans
  • Figs
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Tofu
  • Dandelion leaves
  • Many fortified breakfast cereals
  • Many fortified drinks, including soy milk and a variety of fruit juices
  • Crushed eggshells – they can be ground into a powder and added to foods and/or drinks

Milk which is pushed by the government for “THE” source of Calcium has about 300mg of Calcium.

Well any of the plant based milks have exactly the same amount without the animal proteins.

Now where do vegans get their calcium if they don’t drink “fake” milk?

healthy blood pressure

Some information you need to know  to understand what a healthy blood pressure is.

Systolic Blood Pressure or SYS for short (top number) is the number that measures the pressure on your arteries. When your heart beats, it pushes blood through the arteries and creates pressure on the arteries. This is called systolic blood pressure.

  • less then 120 is normal sytolic pressure and a healthy blood pressure
  • 120 – 139 pre-hypertension, or borderline high blood pressure and getting close to not being a healthy blood pressure.
  • greater then 140 or higher is considered to be hypertension, or high blood pressure and not a healthy blood pressure.

Diastolic Blood Pressure Number or DIA for short (bottom number) is the number that measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart rests between beats.

  • Less then 80 is normal diastolic number and a healthy blood pressure
  • 80-89 prehypertension and getting close to not being healthy blood pressure.
  • 90 or higher is considered to be hypertension or high blood pressure and isn’t a healthy blood pressure.

Even people with prehypertension are at a higher risk of developing heart disease. When you get to this point something needs to be done. I recommend fixing the problem. High blood pressure is a symptom of a unhealthy body and medication only treats the symptom and not the problem.
I turned to a low fat plant based lifestyle. I have made huge improvements to my life and health but when healing yourself from 35 years of abuse its a slow road. Do not expect instant results.

How Is Blood Pressure Measured?
Blood pressure is measured with a simple, painless test using a blood pressure cuff — doctors call it a sphygmomanometer. It consists of a small pressure gauge that is attached to a cuff.

The inflatable cuff is wrapped around your upper arm. Some blood pressure cuffs wrap around the forearm or wrist.

When taking your blood pressure, your doctor will use a stethoscope to listen to the blood moving through an artery.

The cuff is inflated to a pressure that’s known to be higher than your systolic blood pressure. As the cuff deflates, the first sound heard through the stethoscope is the systolic blood pressure. It sounds like a whooshing noise. When this noise goes away, that indicates the diastolic blood pressure.

The systolic blood pressure number is always said first, and then the diastolic blood pressure number is given. For example, your blood pressure may be read as “120 over 80” or written 120/80.

Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).

How Often Should I Get My Blood Pressure Checked?

If your blood pressure is normal (less than 120/80), get it checked at least every 2 years or more frequently as your doctor suggests.
If your blood pressure is borderline high — systolic blood pressure between 120 and 139 or diastolic blood pressure of 80 to 89 — check it at least every year or more often as your doctor suggests.

If your blood pressure is 140/90 or higher, talk with your doctor as this is high blood pressure and requires a doctor’s attention.

Other natural methods of helping you reach a healthy blood pressure are herbs and certain foods like ginger and lemons.  One of the best herbs is know as the “king of herbs” Ganoderma Lucidum
